For those of you who have a trainer/coach do you ever question them? What I mean by this is do you ask why certain exercises are in your plan? Why you might be doing certain things and what the benefits are?
I am lucky enough to have a handful of clients who challenge me a lot. I feel I can usually give a justified answer to most questions they may ask regarding their own training. I always have a clear idea what I want to achieve and how/what we need to do to get there. Obviously things can change but in order to be a good coach you need to be adaptable.
If you are not asking questions and challenging your trainer how do you know they have a set plan for you? How do you know you are getting value for money? More importantly how the hell do you know you are going to get the results you are after? Anyone can throw a bunch of exercises together and count your reps while you do them but does that mean you are heading where you want to be heading?
I think everyone should be asking their trainer questions. It will become quite apparent if they have a clear plan for you with justifications on exercise selection or if they are just taking your money in exchange for exercises and reps. Just because your sessions are fun and you sweat a lot that doesn’t mean you are going to get long term results. Challenge your trainer. Good trainers welcome it….
