One of my new favourite things to do is watch guys who can’t lift teach their partners how to lift. Why do us men have this thing where as soon as we step through the doors of the gym we miraculously become experts?
Obviously I’m not speaking about every guy but all gyms have that one guy. You know that guy that likes to tell you what you are doing wrong, tells you that you must have a protein shake immediately after training or why shrugs will damage your rotator cuff (yes someone said that to me once…a personal trainer at that?!).
There is no shame in admitting you cannot correctly perform a squat or deadlift. I can admit even up to a year ago my deadlifts were no way near as good technically as they are now. However, if you can’t perform an exercise that has the potential to cause injury you certainly shouldn't be teaching others how to do it.
Sometimes we need to drop the ego and seek help. But then again who needs good form when you've got swag right?
